FREE MEMBER TRAINING:
FAMILY STORIES IN THE SAND

Shannon Yockey, LCSW
Kelly Taylor Russell, MA

In this free member workshop we will investigate how intergenerational wounding is transmitted through unresolved trauma within the family system. When working with children, themes show up in the sand as the child attempts to repair wounds that their parents have not been able to. Many children are living their parent’s stories. We will explore ways to help both the child and parent(s) heal and make sense of this painful dynamic.

Many adults are also carrying on a family legacy of unresolved grief and/or trauma that may present as depression and/or anxiety. How much of their lives is a continuation of their parent’s pain? We will look at ways of assisting our adult clients in discovering whose story they are living and how to create their own life paths.

We will examine clinical Sandplay material to understand how certain family dynamics appear in casework and how to discuss this with parents. Participants will also have the opportunity to creatively explore aspects of their own life stories and discover any possible areas of healing.

Learning Objectives

1. Explore how unresolved family trauma themes present in Sandplay scenes.

2. Learn how to involve parents in the Sandplay therapy process.

3. Recognize how our own wounding deeply impacts our work with clients.
